2020 showed us how some of the most remote risks (would anyone have predicted a global pandemic…) can have the most serious consequences. As we get into 2021 there are plenty of risks being discussed – inequality, right-wing extremism, financial bubbles – but there are may be more consequential risks out there.

Bloomberg sat down with three Wall Street executives and asked them what risk they’re most concerned about over the next 5 to 10 years. Their answers offer some insight on what Wall Street is watching at the moment.

Safeguarding critical systems from the risk of cyber attacks, the consequences of mass unemployment and devaluing human life were the three answers given. All three risks are interrelated, a world of more AI and automation will create more critical IT systems, reduce employment and devalue human output. So as we’re seeing technology improve over the next decade, we all should keep our thoughts on the downside of these technological improvements and the risks that these three Wall Street executives are calling out.
