At Equity Mates Media, we’ve got two podcasts designed to help new investors and those who are yet to get started. Here’s what we’re chatting about this week…
This week on Get Started Investing, we share one of our favourite sessions from FinFest!
We hosted over 1700 of the Equity Mates community at The Cutaway in Barangaroo earlier this month, with dozens of sessions from some of the best investing minds in the country. On GSI today, we’re sharing a session delivered by Owen and Kate from Rask invest. It’s all about the power of compounding and getting rich slow.
Maddy and Sophie from You’re In Good Companyare also buzzing about the amazing content that came from FinFest. So today the girls share two of their biggest take-aways from the day.
The first is related to the biggest investing opportunity since the internet… Aka the transition to net zero. The second lesson is about investing in wine… That’s right! Soph shares her biggest learnings from the CEO of OENO, a virtual cellar manager and sommelier teaching us everything you need to know about investing in fine wine.

Hey this got us reminiscing…
To continue with the FinFest theme, we wanted to share some of the best photos from the day.
We set out to deliver an accessible, fun and valuable event for people of all levels of investing experience.
More than 40% of the attendees were women, which is not something you’d normally find at an investing event!
Sessions being held at the Equity Mates studio and Coinspot launch pad domes.
Strong vibes.
FYI
If you missed out on FinFest this year, don’t worry! We’ll be releasing the recordings of each session on our YouTube Channel over the next few weeks. And if you want to register your interest for next year, this is the place!
For a full summary of the day, you can check out this roundup post. It’s got a heap of photos, videos and tweets from the inaugural Equity Mates FinFest!

Hey, this got us thinking
“NOBODY WANTS TO GET RICH SLOW” – Warren Buffett
What a quote from the greatest investor of all time. Buffett has been happy to share his secrets with the world, but there really is no secret to getting rich. It’s all about patience. That is one the most important skills Warren Buffett developed.
Granted, Buffett started with a little more money than most of us, but the point remains. Warren Buffett is so successful because he invests for the long term and uses market downturns as opportunities. That’s a lesson we can all take on board.
And a beginner’s tip for the week…
To finish off, we like to share an article that provides some useful tips or insight to help you invest.
This week’s article is about the importance of diversification, especially in times of uncertainty. The article gives examples of three well-diversified companies:
- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)
- Tencent Holdings
- LVMH – Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton
