Bloomberg Businessweek has devoted an entire magazine issue to a 40,000 word essay about crypto by one of its most popular writers, Matt Levine. It is a deep examination and explanation of where crypto came from, where it is now and where it could go.
The essay is split into four sections
- Ledgers, Bitcoin, Blockchain
- What does it mean?
- The crypto financial system
- Trust, Money, Community
As the first line of the essay suggests, this is the comprehensive crypto essay for the non-crypto person.
“There was a moment not so long ago when I thought, “What if I’ve had this crypto thing all wrong?” I’m a doubting normie who, if I’m being honest, hasn’t always understood this alternate universe that’s been percolating and expanding for more than a decade now.”
This article is almost book length, so don’t expect to open the link and read it in a few minutes (and we’ll be honest, we’re only part way through it as well). But save it and give it a read later. It is perhaps the most comprehensive and accessible explanation of the whole crypto ecosystem we’ve come across. It is also only the second time in Bloomberg Businessweek’s 93 year history that they’ve dedicated a whole issue to one story (useless trivia for you: the only other time with in 2015 with Paul Ford’s What is Code?)
