How to travel with friends on different budgets | Taboo money chats with Alex Hourigan, Two Broke Chicks

HOSTS Maddy Guest & Sophie Dicker|2 July, 2024

We’ve all been there… When the vacay with your besties finally makes it out of the group chat, only to find that tensions are rising because you’re all on different pages about money… Whether it be the friend that always wants to split the bill evenly despite consistently ordering the most expensive items, or the one that’s eating everyone’s leftovers but not ordering a meal for themselves. Each of these situations can be avoided (and many more in between) by having a simple conversation before you jet set off into the Euro sunset.

On today’s episode, Maddy and Sophie chat to Alex Hourigan from Two Broke Chicks about their travel money saving hacks, travel story disasters, and how to avoid them.

And if you’d like to hear more from Alex, she and her co-host Sal just published their first book! You can buy Finding Your People: The ultimate guide to friendship here.

But the conversation doesn’t end here… We want your thoughts!

Shoot us an email to yigc@equitymates.com or DM us @yigcpodcast and we’ll be collating your thoughts (anonymously of course).

You can also send in your very own money dilemmas to be unpacked by ourselves, alongside our expert contributors in our weekly newsletter – subscribe here.

More About

Meet your hosts

  • Maddy Guest

    Maddy Guest

Maddy lives in Melbourne, works in finance, but had no idea about investing until she started recently. Her favourite things to do are watching the Hawks play on weekends, reading books, and she says she's happiest, 'when eating pasta with a glass of wine'. Maddy began her investing journey when she started earning a full time income and found myself reading about the benefits of compound interest in the Barefoot Investor. Her mind was blown, and she started just before the pandemic crash in 2020. What's her investing goal? To be financially independent for the rest of her life, and make decisions without being overly stressed about money.
  • Sophie Dicker

    Sophie Dicker

Sophie lives in Melbourne, and enjoys playing sport, and then drinking red wine immediately after finishing sport. She works in finance, but honestly had no idea about investing until her partner encouraged her to start. She says, 'my interest has only taken off from there - I find it exciting… I mean who doesn’t like watching their money grow?' Her investing goal is to build the freedom to do things that she's passionate about - whether it be start a business, donate to causes close to her, or to take time out of the workforce to start a family. Right now, there’s no specific goal, she just wants to have the freedom when she'll need it.
