Maddy: [00:00:19] Hello and welcome to You're In Good Company, a podcast that makes investing accessible for everyone. I'm Maddy Guest and as always, I'm in some very good company with my co-host, Sophie Dicker, who is very nice and knowing faces at me right now and it is so hard to get that out. Hello, Welcome back home.

Sophie: [00:00:37] How are you?

Maddy: [00:00:39] I am very well.

Sophie: [00:00:40] First episode back after the summer break and we are into February. So we've got four weeks in February. And what does that mean?

Maddy: [00:00:50] So we have both been discussing how we are sort of doing a lot of things this month to review our spending, sort of set some goals for the year. So we thought, why not sort of share what our thought processes and conversations are with you and I guess sort of set up four weeks with maybe four challenges or four goals.

Sophie: [00:01:10] Yeah, four things to do in Feb yet can kind of set you up for 2023.

Maddy: [00:01:15] But before we get there, how was your break?

Sophie: [00:01:18] My break was really good. It was full of family and friends, lots of people that came back from overseas and I had seen a couple of years. Busy. Busy is my word for this summer. Nice. How is yours?.

Maddy: [00:01:29] It was a lot of fun. Went South Australia, did some camping and a little bit of full driving with a group of friends. It was very entertaining, I would say.

Sophie: [00:01:39] Yes, it was entertaining.

Maddy: [00:01:40] Yes. Yes.

Sophie: [00:01:42] And did you listen to read anything?

Maddy: [00:01:44] Yes, read lots, which was amazing. I read lessons in chemistry.

Sophie: [00:01:50] I read that one as well.

Maddy: [00:01:51] I loved it. One of my favourite books of the. Yeah. I also listen to the audiobook for I'm glad my mum died. Have you heard about it? No. By Jeanette McCurdy. Look, I recommend looking into it before you read. It was incredible. It was fascinating. Lots of eating disorder conversation and lots of toxic mother daughter conversation. So tried with care, but incredible book.

Sophie: [00:02:17] What about you? I read lessons in chemistry. Yeah, Dog is a main character, so that's like a massive plus for me. 636 That is.

Maddy: [00:02:25] The dog's name. She's cute.

Sophie: [00:02:27] And I also read Cleopatra and Frankenstein. Oh, it's good. Yeah. It wasn't my favourite book, and I'm like, so good. So anyway, I was saying to you that this time of year I've been assessing what I want to do in 2023. I feel like it always happens this time of year, right?

Maddy: [00:02:46] Yeah, Well, Fab is kind of you still living the summer life? Yeah. Sorry, Jan. You're still living the summer life? Yeah, it was kind of like our at times knuckle down.

Sophie: [00:02:53] It was so hard to go back to work. And I love Jan because it's like, Wait, it's hot. Yeah. Finally got.

Maddy: [00:03:00] Hot. I should still be on the beach.

Sophie: [00:03:02] No, but I think it is like, still a really good time. Like, I know that I do like a lot of, like, long summer walks and stuff. And I was kind of reflecting on, okay, what are the habits I want to build this year? Like what didn't? And it's good time for reflection. What didn't I like last year and what can I bring into the new.

Maddy: [00:03:18] Yeah, yeah. I feel like the end of last year it was just my total chaos. Yeah. Like I especially.

Sophie: [00:03:26] Everything goes out the window. Yeah.

Maddy: [00:03:27] Especially with money. Like I was signing up to streaming services and not cancelling them and not ever watching the shows. I was like, I had all these credits on Amazon that I wasn't using, you know, and I was putting everything on my Amex because I wanted to get points so that I can go away. But now was like forgetting to pay it off and getting charged. And I was like, Matty, come on, get your can we swear? Yeah, this is our third year. And I'm like, Oh shit.

Sophie: [00:03:53] Together.

Maddy: [00:03:54] Get your shit together.

Sophie: [00:03:55] No, I agree. And so December is like a chaotic month. Like you go from like October, still more prepping November, a few more events and then December, it's like you've got something on everybody night and you don't even know where your money's going.

Maddy: [00:04:07] Fun. But chaos.

Sophie: [00:04:08] Chaos. I also listened to a podcast over the summer break Diary of a CEO, which we've mentioned in class many a time and save it. But Stephen Bartlett, the host, talks about building habits and how to kind of do that in 2023. And a really fascinating part of the conversation that I found is like people make news, news resolutions and about like 9% or something of it. It's tiny to actually get through the year doing them. Wow. And a lot of that is to do with like you set really restrictive goals at the beginning of the year instead of being like, okay, what are the little things that I can like to move around in my routine to change the bigger picture?

Maddy: [00:04:47] Yeah, I think there's it's too often we have these big lofty goals without actually sitting down and thinking about what are the steps that we're going to do to achieve them.

Sophie: [00:04:55] Yeah. And you feel like, okay, I'm going to save 20. And this year a huge number. And then it's like, but yeah, I'm going to do that, but without considering, okay, what would you have to give up and like.

Maddy: [00:05:07] Yeah, what is that dollar figure per week? Yeah. Am I going to transfer that into a savings account etc., etc..

Sophie: [00:05:12] Yeah. So I thought a good trend. You've seen the ins and outs trends I have on Instagram. Yeah. First it was flex flex money. I saw.

Maddy: [00:05:23] It. I don't know if she started it or if she just did it.

Sophie: [00:05:27] Well, she just did it. It became a trend because she's a trendsetter.

Maddy: [00:05:30] Yeah.

Sophie: [00:05:31] She flex.

Maddy: [00:05:32] Yes, she is.

Sophie: [00:05:33] And I loved it because it's not going to do this. I'm going to chair this or I'm going to stop that. I'm not doing that. It's like this is what I'm bringing more into my life. This is what I'm getting less of in my life. [00:05:41][8.6]

Maddy: [00:05:42] Yeah, I think reflecting on the end of last year, probably what I want to do most differently this year, but I anyway will keep moving, is that again, I didn't know how.

Sophie: [00:05:56] What I want to do differently this.

Maddy: [00:05:58] Year. Differently The most.

Sophie: [00:06:00] The most.

Maddy: [00:06:01] Yes. Just be more mindful about where my money is going. Yeah. And then it's not about not spending. It's not necessarily about restricting. It's just about actually consciously knowing where it's going so that it's not going to things that I don't care about or that I don't even realise it's going to.

Sophie: [00:06:20] I think that is a great, like overarching mantra. Overarching, overarching, oh yeah, we've lost English. We've lost English over the break. Sorry folks, but I wanted to get into our ins and outs for 2023 on money ones, so maybe I'll ask you a couple of last ones too.

Maddy: [00:06:38] Oh, okay.

Sophie: [00:06:39] But before we do, let's take a quick break. The sponsors.

Maddy: [00:06:46] So. So let's start with the INS. What are your biggest money ins for this year?

Sophie: [00:06:53] My first one is about fashion choices.

Maddy: [00:06:56] Oh. Fashion.

Sophie: [00:06:57] Fashion. I don't know why I said that. Anyway, my first one's in four up shopping. Oh, I've always really loved shopping.

Maddy: [00:07:10] I'm good at it. I don't know. I actually don't know that you. I know what I mean by that is I think you have good fashion knowledge and awareness.

Sophie: [00:07:21] Oh, that's really sweet. Thank you.

Maddy: [00:07:23] Pleasure. But as a result, I think that you would be able to walk into an option, open, like, spot something. Whereas I walk in and I'm, like.

Sophie: [00:07:31] Overwhelming. Yeah. So I've always loved shopping, but I feel like I don't know what it is. Maybe just last year I didn't even think to do it. I lived in an area with great op shops. I just didn't. I always thought like Saturday shopping was like me spending money. I shouldn't do that. But then I would online shop. It's weird mentality. Yeah, I'm.

Maddy: [00:07:48] Tomorrow.

Sophie: [00:07:49] I'm changing that for 2023. And I actually went to an op shop the other day because I was like, I want to I need a couple of things. And I know you don't want to go shopping looking for the thing that you wanted, but.

Maddy: [00:08:01] I mean.

Sophie: [00:08:02] Well, you know, if you're like, I really want a pair of white jeans, you're probably not going to find a pair of white jeans. You're like, Oh, you know, I was like.

Maddy: [00:08:07] Isn't that like being a good shopper? Yeah. And then not just walk in and, you know, buy things. Anyway, I'm saying that I know what you mean. Like you're actually looking for it. You're not going to find it. Yeah.

Sophie: [00:08:18] But I went in with an open mind, just, like, not really wanting any more browse. And I found a pair of jeans that fit like a glove. I found a pair of boots for $15. Like really cute with a little high heel. I found a jumper, which I washed vigorously, and I also found a belt, and everything was $40. Wow. Yeah. When I get together a whole fit.

Maddy: [00:08:44] You also can't get, like, any clothes for $40.

Sophie: [00:08:47] No. And the reason why it's a money one is because, number one, I was kind of relates to an out quickly that I can say is I don't want to buy any more fast fashion. Yeah, I have been a lot better with that but I will still go to the you know, I don't want to name any brands but you know certain brands and I just a t shirt for 20 bucks or whatever and I just kind of want to cut that out. And I think up shopping is a way to be sustainable, but also, you know, help your wallet when you want to buy new things. I love.

Maddy: [00:09:10] It. Can you please film a fit, check with what you.

Sophie: [00:09:13] Already have.

Maddy: [00:09:14] Oh, my gosh. I have a post on our socials.

Sophie: [00:09:18] Okay. What is one of your ins?

Maddy: [00:09:20] One of my ends is something that my dad has been doing for years, and I've always been too embarrassed to do it myself. But I did it recently and have actually. Well, it's asking for a discount.

Sophie: [00:09:32] Okay, so in what context? Just in.

Maddy: [00:09:34] The shops. I know it sounds weird. Okay.

Sophie: [00:09:37] Maybe like clothes, supermarket.

Maddy: [00:09:39] Like supermarket. Sorry. It's like half price of my about a place.

Sophie: [00:09:45] I paid it. That is really expensive.

Maddy: [00:09:48] So look, I, I feel like it's not every shop. So an example of when I did it recently was I needed to go and get my laptop fixed, went into an apple shop and they quoted me and I was like, Is it any chance you can do it for cheaper? Yes, they can. They did it. Okay, save money, bang. And it was something that Dad used to do all the time. I can remember one time when I was little, he was buying glasses and he asked for a discount and they gave him a deal. And I'm like, sometimes you just have to ask.

Sophie: [00:10:18] Yeah, that's a really good idea. I like that. So kind of like maybe not big ticket things, but maybe not. Just like, you know.

Maddy: [00:10:25] Yeah, Yeah, look, probably not, but I think it's sort of getting rid of that pride of like, if they say no, you're like, Cool, thanks. Checking. Yeah. Oh, thanks anyway. Yeah. It doesn't matter if they say no, that's fine. But if they say yes then you get a discount, right?

Sophie: [00:10:39] Yeah, that's a good one.

Maddy: [00:10:40] What else have you got?

Sophie: [00:10:42] Second one is buying peanut butter from Amazon, which is really nice.

Maddy: [00:10:46] Which brand do you buy?

Sophie: [00:10:47] I buy the Maya's. Maya's. Mavis. Maya's.

Maddy: [00:10:52] Gosh, you sound like Jack on high rationality when he's getting pain up until, like, spell the ship, but he can't say it or he doesn't know. It's funny. He gets it from.

Sophie: [00:10:59] I don't know. I think it's Maya's.

Maddy: [00:11:01] I want to say, Mavis, I'm not really a peanut butter connoisseur.

Sophie: [00:11:04] People know what we're talking about if you're from Australia or even worldwide. But the reason why I say that is because they do I work for and actually take me off to this. But there's a time of like year, maybe every couple of months that Amazon sells peanut butter for $2.

Maddy: [00:11:19] Wow. How much is it?

Sophie: [00:11:20] Only it's gone up to like seven bucks. And I really like peanut butter. And I he orders, like, you know, 20 at a time and sets up for the guy.

Maddy: [00:11:30] Great.

Sophie: [00:11:30] That's a random one. A niche. What's your second one.

Maddy: [00:11:33] My next one is an Instagram page that my friend recommended to me over summer. It's called Wholesome by Sarah, and she.

Sophie: [00:11:41] Love a recommendation.

Maddy: [00:11:42] I think it is. I love this. Basically, she. As cooking. And she does really quick, easy recipes, not too many ingredients, which is a massive chip for me because I feel like I'm constantly checking out food. So recommending Wholesome by Sarah for some great especially salads, summer salads and great dinner and lunch recipes.

Sophie: [00:12:02] Nice. That's a good.

Maddy: [00:12:03] One. What is your final in for me?

Sophie: [00:12:05] My final money is Gina Hotties, love. Yeah. I love hosting things, and I love the idea of bring a plate. Everyone spends a little bit less money with bringing a bottle of wine themselves and a plate rather than going out. Yeah, but it's also really intimate and homely fun. Yeah.

Maddy: [00:12:24] I was going to say, I do love going after, you know, being in a restaurant environment, but there is something so nice about going to someone's home.

Sophie: [00:12:30] Yeah, there is. And it doesn't have to mean that you host and do all the food. Yeah, I think the bring a plate thing over summer I did a couple of bring plates like barbecue stuff with friends, you know, a salad and like, it's just so easy and fun. I love it. So definitely just bring more of that into 2023. What's your final in?

Maddy: [00:12:48] My final one is aligning your outgoings. So for this past week I've been doing a bit of a coal around for bills, rent, direct debits that I have coming out of my account. And I've been putting them all for like two days after I get paid. Yeah. So that my money comes in when I get paid, all of the sort of essentials go out and then I know exactly what I'm working with so that I can divide and conquer and know exactly what I have for the rest of the month. I feel like last year I've just had money going out all over the place and it's really contributed to the chaos era that I was going about before. So I've been aligning and I feel calm about it. I feel in control. Question Yes.

Sophie: [00:13:31] So I'm curious at this because I would love to do it. Can you, for example, say to your health insurer, I'd like the money to come out on this date?

Maddy: [00:13:39] I think so.

Sophie: [00:13:40] Okay. Because I haven't.

Maddy: [00:13:41] Told my health insurer yet, but I think you can.

Sophie: [00:13:43] Okay. Well, I'm going to test it. Yeah. Post on social media where you can because, yeah, my health insurance comes out like two days before I get paid.

Maddy: [00:13:52] Yes, I always.

Sophie: [00:13:53] Forget about it.

Maddy: [00:13:54] Also, when we call, let's ask for discount while we're at it. Hello.

Sophie: [00:14:01] Okay, so I feel like the end is the positive energy. It's the little habits that we're going to try and track over 2023, do a little bit more of. What is one of your first money outs? [00:14:11][10.1]

Maddy: [00:14:12] Sighing herbs at the supermarket. [00:14:14][1.7]

Sophie: [00:14:14] Oh, that is such a good one. [00:14:16][1.3]

Maddy: [00:14:16] So expensive. I use them once and then they just sit there and die and it's sad. So starting a herb garden. Yes. Instead of buying them from the supermarket. [00:14:26][10.0]

Sophie: [00:14:27] I did this when I was going to sit in my house. I don't do it now. And it is amazing. If you buy dinner, if you buy a mint, it's a weed. And it literally like proliferates, you know, weight like rice and mint is so expensive. Yeah, I couldn't believe it. It was away Like that stuff should not be $3. It should be $0.50.

Maddy: [00:14:44] There you go.

Sophie: [00:14:45] Another quick tip is farmers markets to buy them. If you want to buy your car in.

Maddy: [00:14:51] Your local community.

Sophie: [00:14:52] Share Another really quick question. What's your favourite? What's the most underrated herbs, do you think?

Maddy: [00:14:58] I mean, I don't know if it's underrated, but hands down has to be Basil Interesting. Dill No.

Sophie: [00:15:04] I think Jill's really underrated.

Maddy: [00:15:06] Oh yeah, It tastes like fish. It's great.

Sophie: [00:15:08] Oh, you don't like it? Oh, I find dill. So, like, people don't use enough. And when it is, it's really good.

Maddy: [00:15:13] I don't hate it. If it's on something, I'll definitely add it, but I would never voluntarily add it.

Sophie: [00:15:19] Basil They do. You'd probably put.

Maddy: [00:15:22] Out of home. That's a strong wind. Or what have you got for me?

Sophie: [00:15:26] I've already mentioned it, but the first one was fast. Fashion's just normal buying the Toyotas because they're easy. Do a bit more research on brands. I think a lot of brands do greenwash. So just looking into it a little bit more before I do make my purchases, you know, maybe do bigger ticket purchases during the year, but a lot less of them or something like that. That's my out second out.

Maddy: [00:15:48] I found this one on a fashion journal article that I was reading. No. So about boobies and no solo brides. So to break that down that.

Sophie: [00:15:58] No.

Maddy: [00:15:59] So no So about boobies I.

Sophie: [00:16:01] A getting a car?

Maddy: [00:16:03] No, no. So just make sure that you allow enough time to jump on the tram or drive or whatever. Like so often I will be lying on my bed watching Netflix and then be like on Ah, I'm running late. I have to jump in an uber unnecessary money, get organised.

Sophie: [00:16:21] Can you get new? But if you're going with other people, those at the solo bit.

Maddy: [00:16:26] On Sandra, it's no so about rubies so like you're allowed to travel home after. Not at all. Right. But just so the no solo Uber eats, so no sitting at home. Laziness by herself can't be bothered cooking me bother going to the supermarket. So ordering a Bryce.

Sophie: [00:16:41] I love that. And I also say I just think an out for turn 93 should just be a rates because of the fees. And I.

Maddy: [00:16:49] Yeah. Go to the restaurant.

Sophie: [00:16:50] Go to the restaurant pick it up.

Maddy: [00:16:52] Yes I.

Sophie: [00:16:53] Agree.

Maddy: [00:16:53] You're Alaska. Take me on your own. But there is no reason why you should not get up off the couch. Go get it from the local restaurant. Yeah, pick it up.

Sophie: [00:17:02] I actually listen to a podcast. I couldn't tell you what it was, but I remember these voces sauces. So specifically. Yeah. That they said that the way this is so your like philosophical the way I communities the little ties of communities actually when you go to what was I listening I don't know but I feel like I had this when you go to a restaurant and the interaction to pick up your meal to say thank you for cooking it. And that's what ties communities together 100%. So let's just veto.

Maddy: [00:17:38] It, right? Yeah, right Now what's your next out?

Sophie: [00:17:42] Next out is this is this could cause controversy. This could cause.

Maddy: [00:17:48] Struggling with your asses.

Sophie: [00:17:50] Which obviously I developed a list over the summer controversy extra is on health insurance.

Maddy: [00:18:00] Okay.

Sophie: [00:18:01] Is my out for 2023 Explain. My explanation is that I don't use I own these dental pretty much like I have my glasses. So not every not every year I'm getting a new pair of optical glasses. Optical optical glasses. And I don't use anything else. I really don't. And my health insurance is like, I don't know, 100 bucks. 110 bucks a month. Yeah. And I when I go to the dentist, for example, it's like $200 and I get 50 bucks back and I'm like, I want to change my mentality so that I save the money to go to the dentist rather than, like, paying for the extras. And I know it's risky because maybe that something might come up, might need be dental surgery or something. But right now for me, I feel like I can get more out of saving the money to put into a savings account.

Maddy: [00:18:49] Yeah, to.

Sophie: [00:18:50] Use. But I would keep hospital obviously, because that's like, you know, you.

Maddy: [00:18:54] Still have health insurance. Yeah. Just getting rid of the extras. Yeah. Interesting. I should definitely review mine because I don't think I'm using name.

Sophie: [00:19:01] Yeah. And I think, you know, people that use your actions all the time, you go to the physio, you go to a psychologist, you go to whatever. Like, so good to have that. Yeah, but I just looked back and I'm like, Oh my God, I'm spending $110 a month and I literally still pay $200 to go to the dentist, but I don't get it.

Maddy: [00:19:15] Good one. Yeah.

Sophie: [00:19:17] What is your third out?

Maddy: [00:19:19] This one is also potentially controversial. It's having too many bank accounts. Yeah, I feel like we went through a phase, especially before investor era, where, you know, you had to splurge, you had to do this, you do that, you had a fire extinguisher and it was everyone was walking around with four different coloured cards. I think again, just simplifying my situation, being across where all of my money is incoming, outgoing.

Sophie: [00:19:43] Knowing what you.

Maddy: [00:19:43] Yeah, just get rid of all of them. I don't know. I have so many.

Sophie: [00:19:47] I think that's even the same mentality with like, investing, to be honest.

Maddy: [00:19:49] Yes.

Sophie: [00:19:50] Like when I consolidated brokers. Yeah. I was like, Oh, this is how much I actually have. Yeah. And like, this is this is an investment I don't really like. And I didn't realise that was there cause I'm checks that often ages like. Yeah.

Maddy: [00:20:03] Yeah, that's.

Sophie: [00:20:04] Good. So maybe just with like consolidation.

Maddy: [00:20:07] Holiday super too if you gotta, if you have more than if you have more than one super account, please stop listening to this podcast right now. Gon fix up.

Sophie: [00:20:16] Yeah, it's easy to do.

Maddy: [00:20:18] What is your third out?

Sophie: [00:20:19] My final out is spending on my Amex. So having Amex card because you get you points for travel.

Maddy: [00:20:28] Yeah, I'm actually really confused because I'm stressed about this at the moment. Yeah.

Sophie: [00:20:31] And I it has been great and I've accumulate a lot of points, but I have experienced the lifestyle creep with it where I think that I have more money than I do. And I'm like, But it's fine. When my next paycheque comes in, I'll just pay off that.

Maddy: [00:20:47] Also, I feel like sometimes I spend more money because I'm like, It's that which is silly.

Sophie: [00:20:52] Yeah. And I thought I was in control and I don't think I'm in control. It's not, you know, crazy or bad or whatever, but I think I'm just like, Oh, I can buy that because it's just going to all my ex and it's that I need to get rid of that mentality. So I am on a Nomex that you pay like a fee for and you get that as a credit for travel. So so I will be stopping it once I have used that credit so I don't lose that money. Yeah. Which hopefully I can do a little trip in Australia sometime soon, use it with Qantas and then be done with it. I think people credit cards can be great, but I've worked out that my mentality actually doesn't sit.

Maddy: [00:21:27] Yeah, doesn't work for you. Yeah.

Sophie: [00:21:29] Do you have any like, funny personal interests?

Maddy: [00:21:32] Oh, I don't know about funny about having an intimate. I'm in a yellow era phase. Yeah. I've got a new yellow phone yesterday. My now is currently painted yellow. I wish I was walking around the office at work like, Hey, guys, look at me. One of my directors messaged me from across the room and saying, I like your yellow phone. Okay? So I was like, Yeah, it's literally new today. Thank you so much. What about you? Any general ends are out.

Sophie: [00:21:59] General ends dance class.

Maddy: [00:22:01] Oh, awesome.

Sophie: [00:22:02] I really want to do dancing. Yeah, I'm just into it. Yeah. And Outs is being grumpy.

Maddy: [00:22:08] It's funny. I was going to say my hat is like just being stressed or, like, anxious. Yes, I'm just done with.

Sophie: [00:22:14] I just realised like in December I was so grumpy all the time because I was just like over. It was just the end of the year. But I'm done with it. I'm absolutely done with it. And I bet you Sam's going to listen to this. I mean, like we will say.

Maddy: [00:22:28] I love it. Well, that rounds out week one of our four weeks of fib. So I guess number one is creating our habits, figuring out what our ins and outs are so that you are aligning your money habits with what you care about and getting rid of the stuff that you don't.

Sophie: [00:22:45] I implore you to write them down in your phone. I sat in bed one morning and just wrote them all out and it's just like, look back and love it.

Maddy: [00:22:53] And I have this journaling, so I'm going to gentle my Embiid out.

Sophie: [00:22:55] Yeah, nice. I go to that right Even if it's on the phone I'm trying whatever do it.

Maddy: [00:23:00] Next week little taste the way I'm going to be talking about creating a.

Sophie: [00:23:06] Don't say the word.

Maddy: [00:23:07] Financial plan.

Sophie: [00:23:08] Budget but that's not a budget triggering It's it's triggering, but it's not a budget. It's really.

Maddy: [00:23:13] Visceral reaction to that word. Anyway, we're going to be talking about how you can create a financial plan that you can actually stick to. Maddy Guest

Maddy lives in Melbourne, works in finance, but had no idea about investing until she started recently. Her favourite things to do are watching the Hawks play on weekends, reading books, and she says she's happiest, 'when eating pasta with a glass of wine'. Maddy began her investing journey when she started earning a full time income and found myself reading about the benefits of compound interest in the Barefoot Investor. Her mind was blown, and she started just before the pandemic crash in 2020. What's her investing goal? To be financially independent for the rest of her life, and make decisions without being overly stressed about money.

    Sophie Dicker

Sophie lives in Melbourne, and enjoys playing sport, and then drinking red wine immediately after finishing sport. She works in finance, but honestly had no idea about investing until her partner encouraged her to start. She says, 'my interest has only taken off from there - I find it exciting… I mean who doesn’t like watching their money grow?' Her investing goal is to build the freedom to do things that she's passionate about - whether it be start a business, donate to causes close to her, or to take time out of the workforce to start a family. Right now, there’s no specific goal, she just wants to have the freedom when she'll need it.
