Nike and Puma announce they will stop using kangaroo leather in their shoes | Sky News Australia
Nike and Puma have announced they will stop using kangaroo leather to make their football boots.
Australian shoemakers have criticised the move, saying the brands will regret using synthetic alternatives instead.
Shoemaker Andrew McDonald said kangaroo leather is unique compared to other leathers, in that it offers a high strength, whilst remaining lightweight and flexible.
My theory is that when they start using synthetics, it just adds more rubbish to the rubbish pile, Mr McDonald told Sky News Australia.
Nothing can beat the real thing, which is the kangaroo leather.
