With such a long-term investment horizon, the economic fundamentals for most real assets look positive, but this is particularly the case for agriculture, which has a clear megatrend in its favour.

New disruptive business models which have created so much value for shareholders would simply not have emerged but for the increasing sophistication and sheer grunt of the chips on which they run.

Marcus Padley summarises some of the lessons for investors from the once-in-a-lifetime pandemic years. Those years have been great for investors. It has allowed fabulous opportunities. Hopefully you played the game and look forward to the next great correction rather than fearing it. Hopefully we’ll all have the vigilance, experience, and courage to exploit it, not run from it.

The word “real” is a broad term that has many different meanings, so it should perhaps come as no surprise that the term ‘real assets’ can also be defined in different ways by investors.
