Given the market volatility, rising interest rates and recession backdrop we are facing, Felicity and Candice wanted to speak with an expert in the Australian floating fixed interest market space - also known as hybrids or preference shares. This type of investment is a very attractive asset allocation in the current market conditions, so the ladies wanted to host an episode on what these are, and why investors like them. Cam has had over thirty years experience in financial markets, including a sixteen year stint as Division Director at Macquarie Group. He joined Shaw in July 2015 and got straight into establishing the Shaw SMA Model Portfolios with his partner Steve Anagnos. In this conversation they talk about the outlook for the hybrid market, the risks surrounding preference shares, and ask him to clarify some of the terms mentioned in the space.

Peter is an experienced equities analyst specialising in Metals and Mining sectors who has previously held positions as Head of Australian Metals and Mining at Deutsche Bank, Head of Global Metals and Mining at Credit Suisse and Equities Research, Metals and Mining at Macquarie Bank. Prior to his roles within Financial Services as a research analyst, Peter held operational roles with Rio Tinto for five years and BHP Billiton for five years. His current role today is the Metals & Mining research analyst at Shaw and Partners. In this episode, Felicity and Candice talks to him about his extensive time in the industry, and ask for him to share a few ideas about where to be looking for oppotunities.

Talking Money To Us | Or 2021 in Review / how to value a company (Analyst at Shaw)

In our final episode for 2021, Candice and Felicity are joined by Martin Crabb, the Chief Investment Officer from Shaw & Partners. Together they discuss the year that was 2021, and explore the investment opportunities on the horizon for 2022. They chat about the recovery trade as the world begins to re-open, and look through all the noise and identify some key investment ideas. Martin joined Shaw & Partners in 2011, prior to which he was an Executive Director at Macquarie Group where he worked for over 20 years in roles spanning Institutional Stockbroking, wealth management, research and portfolio management. Martin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Melbourne, with postgraduate studies in Applied Finance.

In this episode we welcome back one of our favourite guests - Adam Dawes - the Senior Investment Advisor at Shaw & Partners. As Alec says, 'if you're going to do a Buy, Hold, Sell episode, there's one guy to do it'. The guys went out to the Equity Mates community, and ask Adam to give his opinion on whether he'd 'buy' or 'sell' stocks that you've asked to be reviewed. After going through the stocks by industry, Bryce and Alec challenge Adam with a Small Cap speed round for fun at the end!
